Abstract
More than six in ten Rhode Islanders endorse banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from entering schools or churches, making arrests without a judicial warrant, or covering their faces. Most do not trust the federal government to thoroughly investigate recent shootings by ICE agents in Minnesota and a majority in Rhode Island believe ICE has made the country less safe. However, a plurality oppose calls to abolish ICE entirely, and half of state residents say illegal immigration is a very or somewhat serious problem in Rhode Island. President Trump's job approval in the state remains low, with immigration cited most often by his supporters and detractors as the main reason for their opinion of his overall job performance.
