Abstract

A majority of Maine residents support proposed reforms banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from entering schools or churches, covering their faces, or making arrests without a judicial warrant. A slim majority feel that ICE has made the country less safe and Mainers continue to disapprove of President Trump's handling of immigration. Nevertheless, nearly two-thirds of Mainers think illegal immigration is a very or somewhat serious problem in the U.S. and half feel it is very or somewhat serious in Maine. Support for Trump's overall job performance has increased since December and Trump's handling of immigration is cited most often by his supporters as the main reason they approve.
