Abstract

More than half of Vermont residents expect to be worse off financially in a year, with many anticipating rising prices, inflation, or poor economic stewardship by the Trump administration. Nine in ten expect that tariffs will raise the cost of goods and two-thirds think they will have a negative effect on the overall economy. Few Vermonters expect good times for businesses in Vermont or the country at large over the next twelve months and few believe now is a good time to purchase a major household item.
