Abstract
A slightly larger proportion of Vermonters will have a real Christmas tree rather than an artificial tree this year, while a quarter won't have any tree. Those who prefer a real tree often cite tradition or a better look or smell, those who prefer an artificial tree mention less work or cost, and those who won't have a tree at all often say it is because they won't be home or because they do not celebrate Christmas. Vermonters are equally divided on their preferred holiday greeting, with Democrats favoring "Happy Holidays" and Republicans and Independents using "Merry Christmas" more often.
