Abstract
More than four in five Massachusetts residents believe prices for everyday goods have increased over the past year and more than two-thirds expect them to continue rising over the coming year. Half of state residents believe the overall U.S. economy will experience bad times over the next year and two-thirds believe the economy is getting worse. Bay Staters are also dour concerning their personal finances, as a plurality expect to be worse off financially a year from now and four in five are concerned about winter energy costs. Despite this downbeat outlook, most state residents say that they have enough or more than enough money to cover their holiday shopping needs this year.
