Abstract

In an early look at the 2028 presidential primary season, Gavin Newsom, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and Pete Buttigieg are the early leaders among likely Democratic voters in Maine. On the other side, JD Vance holds a wide early lead over his potential rivals for the Republican nomination. Approval of President Trump's handling of foreign affairs has increased since August. Most in the state believe Trump deserves at least some credit for his part in the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Mainers generally blame both parties in Congress and President Trump for the current federal government shutdown.
