Abstract
A majority of Maine Democrats felt relieved and hopeful following President Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and most would like to see Vice President Kamala Harris become the party's nominee for president. Harris leads in a matchup with Republican nominee former President Donald Trump and is more popular in the state than Trump and Biden. Most state Republicans do not trust the FBI to investigate the attempted assassination of Trump and more than three-quarters of Mainers are concerned about further political attacks on political leaders, leaders using violence or illegal methods to obtain power, or people violently or illegally interfering in upcoming elections over the next year.
