46th Edition 2026
A Letter from the Editor:
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the 46th production of Comm-entary, the University of New Hampshire's Undergraduate Research Journal of Student Scholarship. We are proud to present you with most recent (and re-vamped) edition of a time honored UNH Communication Department tradition and are excited to share with you the best interdisciplinary work on media, rhetoric, and interpersonal communication studies that UNH students have created this year.
Over the course of this academic year, I was honored to spearhead the Comm-entary team in not only the creation of the 46th edition, but also in the restructuring and rebuilding of the Journal's outreach, submission, and sharing process. From more active initiatives on social media platforms to outreach across various other UNH majors to an entire re-design of the Comm-entary website, this year has been full of change. We welcomed staff members from other majors other than Communication and encouraged students outside the Department to send in submissions, producing an edition that is not only full of inter-disciplinary learning but representative of the ways in which the field of Communication transcends our department and touches all.
None of this change would have been possible without the diligent work of our staff, and to them all the credit is due. We are also deeply grateful for the guidance of Professor R. Michael Jackson and his willingness to support our ambition as out faculty advisor. Finally, we would like to extend appreciation to the Communication Department at UNH as a whole, for cultivating a curiosity about our field between students and staff alike that leads to the creation of much of the incredible scholarship we publish.
The following works have been selected for their interest and excellence, and I believe offer a comprehensive view of the diversified interest in Communication the UNH student body possess. I am humble to lead the team that brings them to you for the 46th year and I sincerely hope you enjoy!
Sincerely,
Ruby Prentiss
