Description
A music manuscript folio with the notation for the songs "Parodie du Minuet Jupin dis le Matin", "La Princesse", and "The Restauration: or the Coventry Song" on the front. The inner pages contain notation and lyrics for the songs; "A New Song", "The Favorite"—a "Chaconne danced by her Majesty Queen Anne"—and two minuets by John Playford and Henry Purcell for "Music's Handmaid", a book on harpsicord. The back page contains notation for the song "Rigadoon" by Henry Purcell. Sources are listed on the manuscript. Part of the collection of songs and dances from the 17th and 18th centuries gathered by Bessie Osgood; "Parodie du Minuet Jupin dis le Matin" is in F major and 3/4 time; "La Princesse" is in D major and 6/8 time; "The Restauration: or the Coventry Song" is in C major and 4/4 time; "A New Song" is in D major and 4/4 time; "Bath The Favorite" is in C major and 3/4 time; Playford and Purcell's minuets are in A minor / 3/4 time and D minor / 3/4 time, respectively; "Rigadoon" is in C major and 4/4 time.
