Abstract

The Underlife is a collection of eleven personal creative nonfiction essays, plus an introductory chapter. Each essay is accompanied by an illustration that draws the reader’s attention to an element of the essay that represents the theme or idea being explored. The phrase “the underlife” is meant to evoke the author’s belief that there is much to learn from studying the often overlooked moments in the world around us; underneath the most innocuous things are stories worth telling.
