Abstract
More than half of adult Granite Staters say they never attend religious services, despite most saying they did attend as children. Catholics represent the largest religious group among New Hampshire adults, followed closely by Protestants, but more than a third say they are agnostic, atheist, or religiously unaffiliated. Despite low church attendance, majorities say they believe in God or a supernatural entity and heaven or some type of afterlife, and just over half believe religion has a positive impact on society. Majorities also believe religion plays a key role in morality and believe the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation, but majorities also believe that religion should play no role in public affairs and that prayer is inappropriate in public schools in the state.
