Abstract
A majority of Rhode Islanders believe prices have increased on regularly purchased items over the past year and will continue to increase in the coming year. Ahead of the winter heating season, more than three-quarters of state residents are concerned about winter heating costs. Rhode Islanders' assessment of their personal finances remains largely negative but has ticked up slightly since May. Regarding holiday shopping, four in ten Rhode Islanders expect to spend less this year and a quarter feel they don't have enough money to cover their holiday shopping. Rhode Islanders are generally downbeat on the state and national economies, as a majority feel that the economy is getting worse.
