Building collaboration among physicians and other early intervention providers: Practices that work
Abstract
Public and professional policies as well as the professional literature have advised physicians take a more active role in the early intervention system. Despite these directives, many barriers exist that inhibit the full participation of physicians in this system. One of these barriers is the lack of effective communication between and differing expectations of physicians and community service providers. Findings from two research studies will be discussed in relation to this issue. Strategies to improve communication and increase physician involvement also will be examined.
