Abstract
"Emerging role of the Federal Government in quality assurance of higher education" is a podcast interview with Judith Eaton, President of the Council on Higher Education (CHEA). Easton responds to the commendations of the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) regarding accreditation. Expressing caution regarding NACIQI recommendation of greater federal government involvement in the accreditation process, Eaton asserts standardizing higher education outcomes will not sustain the core values of higher education, such as peer review. Instead, Eaton feels a mission-based approach is a better alternative to standardization. This effort should be led by institutions and should be accompanied with greater transparency. Additionally, accreditors need to do more to achieve greater transparency. Additionall, Dr. Eaton implores higher education to take the lead in industry evaluation.
Interview facilitation, commentary and discussion presented by Kathryn Dodge, Alison Griffin, and Elise Scanlon of Radio Higher Ed.
