Abstract

Streams and rivers play important roles in carbon and nitrogen cycles. They link land, ocean, and atmosphere, and support high rates of biogeochemical activity, which can produce and consume greenhouse gases. In this talk, I will discuss processes controlling greenhouse gas dynamics in freshwater ecosystems and highlight the importance of direct measurements and new observations for building a process-based understanding of aquatic greenhouse gas emissions, freshwater response to global change, and potential climate feedbacks.
