Abstract
Plastic pollution has become a major environmental challenge because of its persistence and widespread impacts on natural systems. This has accelerated the transition toward sustainable plastic alternatives and recycling based approaches. While these strategies aim to reduce the long term impacts of plastic waste, relatively little is known about how these materials change once they enter the environment. Using examples from biodegradable and semisynthetic polymers and recycled tire rubber, this seminar will examine how environmental weathering influences their transformation and interactions, with implications for their fate, exposure, and potential toxicity.
