Effects of Combinations of Polyamine Biosynthetic Inhibitors on Cellular Polyamines in Carrot Cell Cultures
Abstract
The effects of cyclohexylammonium phosphate (CHAP) in combination with other inhibitors of polyamine biosynthesis were studied on cellular polyamine levels in carrot (Daucus carota L.) cell suspension cultures. A combined treatment with CHAP and difluoromethylornithine increased cellular putrescine and spermine levels but had little effect on spermidine levels. Difluoromethylarginine (DFMA)+CHAP decreased cellular putrescine and spermidine levels but increased spermine levels. A combination of CHAP and methylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) caused a significant increase (up to four-fold) in putrescine and a decrease in cellular spermidine and spermine levels.
