Abstract
The mission of the Rozalia Project for a Clean Ocean is to protect the ocean through innovation, education, cleanup and research with a focus on marine debris. Rozalia Project fights the problem of marine debris by using a VideoRay equipped with a manipulator, multibeam sonar, image enhancement and tether-based positioning system to locate and recover marine debris from oceans, lakes and rivers. We also use this equipment to connect people with the underwater world right at their feet - in order to inspire them to be part of the solution. This presentation will briefly look at the problem of ocean trash, then focus on the equipment and techniques Rozalia Project uses to find and recover marine debris, concluding with results from our work (and a few attack crab videos).
Presenter Bio
Rachael Miller is the co-founder/Director of the Rozalia Project for a Clean Ocean whose mission is to protect the ocean through innovation, education, cleanup and research from aboard American Promise a Ted Hood 60’ and dockside locations across the country. She is a member of the US Sailing Training Committee as well as a Level 1 and 2 Instructor Trainer. Rachael holds a USCG 50 ton Master's license, trains ROV pilots for VideoRay, lives in VT, has 2 Newfies and loves the frozen water as much as the liquid.
