Abstract

"Civic learning and its place in higher education: Implications for learning and accountability" is a podcast interview with Carol Geary Schneider, President of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Schneider discusses the importance of civic learning in higher education and how the focus on accountability in higher education helps to highlight the importance of liberal education for all students. Specifically, Schneider discusses AAC&U’s partnership with Lumina in developing the Degree Qualifications Profile (DQP). According to Schneider, the DQP goes beyond the voluntary system of accountability in assessing a greater level of knowledge areas for students in the 21st century. Furthermore, Schneider discusses how assessing what students learn plays into the important role of educating students as both local and global citizens.
