Abstract
This project seeks to explore the connection between the consumption of Studio Ghibli films and the formation of Asian-American identity. Through conducting interviews, it was discovered that there were commonalities among participants that indicated a positive connection between the consumption of Studio Ghibli and the formation of Asian-American identity, as well as themes related to the distinction between the Asian ‘self’ and the white ‘other.’ In addition, there was a commonality among some participants regarding the reasons why Studio Ghibli did not play a big role in the formation of their Asian-American identities. This research is a steppingstone for future audience studies in connection to the formation of cultural identity.
