Abstract
The following collection of stories represent a variety of voices and genres. “My Turn,” the title story, relates the experience of a mother who, at a time in her life when she anticipates slowing down and decreased responsibilities, becomes caretaker to her daughter who, at 54 has developed a seizure disorder and mental compromise.Included in this collection is a variety of genres with magic realism in “Dementia and Other World Awareness” and “One Plus One Makes Five,” as the opening and closing stories. The remainder are more representative of a range of human experience that I have witnessed and dressed up with my imagination. “Farley” follows three naïve young women through a night on the town during which they innocently walk with eyes wide open to become embroiled in a drug deal gone wrong. Sgt Tucker is a heroic Marine who at the end of his 30-year career suffers severe Post- traumatic Stress Disorder. He stoically faces difficult emotional memories in order to become the civilian man, husband, father who leaves the war behind. The remaining stories are similarly representative of realism in the lives of my characters; a carpenter whose alcoholism endangers his family, a street kid who aspires to more in life, a teen-age girl becoming aware of her sensuality and more.
