Abstract
A ‘primitive streak’ is what embryologists call the stage when a developing fetus first takes shape. There appears out of clustered cells the primary axis, which will become the spine; it’s a beginning.
Thematically, these poems are concerned with beginnings—as childhood is a beginning, as is a love affair, heartbreak, death. This collection traces the journey from first childhood into those various kinds of knowledge—a daisy-chain loop that leads from arcade birthday parties to the babyhood of old age and then back to the infant state.
