Abstract

President Donald Trump’s approval rating remains underwater in Maine, as Republicans are nearly unanimous in their approval while nearly all Democrats disapprove. Mainers continue to be wary of tariffs and expect them to harm the national economy and raise prices, but Republicans have become more amenable to tariffs and expect them to raise prices only slightly and benefit the economy overall. Immigration is a highly contentious issue in Maine, as nearly all Republicans support Trump's actions on this issue while nearly all Democrats are opposed. Those who say the country is headed in the right direction most often cite immigration as the reason for their optimism.
