Abstract
GIS derived habitat models for 18 species (five reptiles and amphibians, twelve birds, and one mammal) were evaluated to determine how successful they were at identifying habitat for those species. Because of the time associated with determining presence/absence of reptiles and amphibians, incidental wildlife observations were used to evaluate the habitat models for those species. However, the models could not be adequately evaluated using this method because few incidental wildlife observations occurred in the study area. Model success for the remaining species was evaluated using wildlife surveys, quantitative habitat surveys, and/or general habitat descriptions.
