Abstract

This capstone project is designed to explore the differences between generational cohorts in the workplace and to explore how each of them defines the term “work-life balance.” A literature review was conducted to identify benefits of work-life balance including reducing stress, increasing job satisfaction, and improving employee retention. In contrast, negatives impacts were also explored and taken into consideration. Results were compared across generations for similarities and differences to determine best practices for work-life balance initiatives. This information was used to create a survey for Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) located in Hardwick Vermont. OSSU’s goal is to gauge how district office employees feel about their current work-life balance and make improvements according to results.
