Abstract
This project aims to develop an outpatient surgical scheduling improvement plan for Atrius Health, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system. Presently, no consistent process exists for surgical schedulers to organize outpatient surgical appointments. Therefore, the project plan is to develop a system whereby all surgical cases are scheduled in Epic. The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model for improvement provides a framework for the development, testing, and implementation of the scheduling improvement process. The goal of this quality improvement project is to add additional protection to patient information while improving the surgical specialties department, hospital admissions coordinators (HAC), and providers' organizational outcomes.
