“In this picture, I am helping take [sherry] beans out of their shells, a process I was invited into by my friend’s mother, who had harvested them herself. Every time I visit, she insists that I eat. In her home, saying no to food is almost seen as disrespect. She offers food generously to everyone who comes through her door, a gesture that speaks to her warmth and the way she shows care.”
