Abstract

A measurement of the vector analyzing power Te11 in elastic electron-deuteron scattering has been performed at the MIT-Bates Linear Accelerator Center using a polarized electron beam, an internal polarized atomic deuterium target, and the symmetric BLAST (Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid) detector in the Bates South Hall Ring. The beam helicity dependent target vector asymmetries, simultaneously measured in both sectors of BLAST, allow the extraction of Te11 . To the best of our knowledge this is the first such use of a polarized target to determine Te11 . Furthermore, these data, when combined with measurements of A(Q2) and the target tensor polarization observables T20 and T21 , allow the extraction of the magnetic dipole form factor G M in the low Q2 region.
