Abstract
This presentation describes strategies and methods recently developed at The Ohio State University for multi-source geospatial information integration and analysis for coastal management and decision making. An overview of high precision satellite photogrammetry is presented. Next, datum conversion is discussed. Then a method for water-surface modeling is presented and evaluated. Shorelines and/or blufflines can be accurately extracted based on the resulting multi-source geospatial data set and a consistent vertical datum. Furthermore, uncertainty modeling of the extracted shoreline or bluffline is also discussed, and its application in a cyberinfrastructure-based platform for coastal management and decision making is described. Finally, we present some results of hyperspectral image processing and potential applications in coastal change detection.
Presenter Bio
Dr. Ron Li is the Lowber B. Strange Designated Professor and Director of the Mapping and GIS Laboratory at the Ohio State University. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors in surveying and mapping from Tongji University in China in 1982 and 1984, and received his doctorate in photogrammetry and remote sensing from Technical University of Berlin in 1990. Dr. Li is a leading researcher in coastal and marine mapping and GIS, and Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Marine Geodesy. He is a participating scientist of the LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter) mission and the MER (Mars Exploration Rover) 2003 mission and a member of the Pancam science team for the ESA ExoMars mission.
