Abstract

This discussion provides a general Overview of Raytheon Company, Survey’s Raytheon's Company Wide Ocean and Ocean Environment Research Endeavors, as well as Raytheon Sea Power System’s current Undersea Acoustic Sensor Technologies and their application to Undersea Threat Detection and Neutralization.

Presenter Bio

Hardy Hartwell is a Mechanical Engineering Fellow based in Portsmouth, Rhode Island at the Seapower Capability Center. He has over 35 years' experience in Defense and commercial sectors with a diverse 40-year engineering background. Mr. Hartwell is an UNH alumnus, holding Masters of Science (1983) and Bachelor of Science (1979) in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Hartwell is recognized as a company Subject Matter Expert in Mechanical and Structural Design for Strategic and Tactical, Ground, Shipboard X Band Phased Arrays and Tow Fish Launch and Recovery Systems. He is a well-respected engineering leader, on projects from new conceptual work through production, integration, and test.

Since Mr. Hartwell joined Raytheon in 1992, he has been involved in multiple areas of Mechanical Design. Key technical contributions are in Ground Based, Tactical and Strategic, Space Based, and Shipboard, Solid State Phased Arrays, Air Traffic Control and C3I Antennas as well as Ship Towed Acoustic Sensors, Arrays, Launch and Recovery Systems. His breadth of activities spans from Requirements Definition, Concept Level System Architecture, to Preliminary Design, Detailed Critical Design, thru to Equipment Fabrication and System Integration. He has been a key contributor on several programs, including Ground Base Radar (THAAD), Cobra Judy Replacement (Cobra King), SMART-T and Australian Defense Air Traffic Control Radars. ADATS as well as DART Variable Depth Sonar, (VDS) Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Towed System.
