Discussion around what is intellectual property, ways to protect intellectual property, and some of the potential intersections between your research and intellectual property management.
Presenter Bio
Maria Emanuel is the Licensing Manager in the Office for Research Partnerships and Commercialization at the University of New Hampshire. She works with UNH faculty, staff, and students to evaluate intellectual property protection and technology commercialization opportunities for inventions and discoveries developed at the University. Active in her professional community, Maria is a member of the Association for University Technology Managers and Licensing Executive Society.
Prior to joining UNH, Maria was the director of marketing for Ardais Corporation in Lexington, Massachusetts, a start-up company in the life sciences field. Maria also worked with the sales group and business development group at Ardais during her tenure.
Maria earned her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire in 1995 and her doctorate in Cell Biology from Case Western Reserve University in 2002. Following graduate school, she spent time in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a research consultant with a pharmaceutical company. Maria joined UNH in 2006. She resides in Stratham, NH, with her husband and son and serves as a Trustee of the Trust Fund for the Town of Stratham.
