Description
c. 1925. Sleeveless one-piece knee-length sheath dress made with unlined aqua chiffon and a lace hem, trimmed with silk ribbon flowers.
The dress bodice has no shaping and is cut from two pieces of sheer aqua silk chiffon, one front and one back, sewn together at the shoulder seams and on the right side with a 29.2 cm / 11.5 in. long seam. There is a closure at the left side with seven snaps. The bodice has a scooped neckline. The waistline is slightly dropped and is covered with a silk ribbon wrapped in silk ribbon flowers.
The skirt is 59.7 cm / 23.5 in. long and made from two panels, one front and one back, sewn together at the sides and to the bodice hem at the waist. The panels are semi-circles and fall smoothly from the waist seam with fullness growing toward the hem. Both front and back panels of the chiffon are cut into four scallops, and machine-made synthetic fiber lace fabric is sewn in to complete the skirt length, flaring widely. The scallop seams are covered with a trim of tiny silk ribbon flowers all the way around the skirt, and the peak of each scallop on the front panel has a trio of larger two-tone silk ribbon violets with leaves. Machine-sewn and hand-sewn.
