Implementation of an Employment Consultation Model of Job Support Following Online Training.

Abstract

Employment specialist support to individuals with disabilities includes facilitating the development of natural supports in the workplace and consulting with company personnel. Adequate training must be made available to direct service job support staff if they are to successfully implement these strategies. This study reports the findings of a follow-along study of a 20-hour online training on workplace support and employment consulting. The extent to which seventeen participants who completed training transferred training content to the workplace and helped individuals with disabilities to achieve successful employment was examined using a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods. Results provide preliminary evidence of utilization of strategies learned by trainees and employment success for consumers. Implications for direct service staff development are discussed.
