Abstract
This is a collection of linked creative nonfiction stories about growing up with an older brother who is nonverbal and autistic, the struggle of my family to give him the best life possible, and my own understanding of our relationship as we become adults.
Preface: The following is a collection of articles I wrote throughout my MFA here. They are all non-fiction, and all tenuously connected by a single person: my brother, Ethan. Many of them focus on him, but there are also several in which he is only a footnote. In either case, Ethan either knows secondhand or has lived the stories told here and I like to imagine that if he could speak, he might tell many of them better.
