Abstract

Free Spirit is the first half of a biography of Mason W. Gross, who was the President of Rutgers University during the turbulent ‘sixties. As a combat veteran himself, he opposed the U.S>< involvement in Vietnam, and kept a quiet campus during an era of nationwide campus protest.

The entire biography has been selected for publication by the Rutgers University Press.
