Abstract
More than half of Massachusetts residents expect the U.S. economy to experience bad times in the next year and more than two-thirds expect tariffs to harm the national economy. Bay Staters are also pessimistic about their personal finances, as few say they are better off than a year ago and nearly half expect to be worse off a year from now. Majorities think now is a bad time to buy a car or home or to have a baby and few think it is a good time to make other major decisions such as investing in the stock market, looking for a new job, or buying a major household item.
