Abstract
"Emerging role of community colleges" is a podcast interview with Walter Bumphus, President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). According to Bumphus, community colleges are increasingly an important sector of postsecondary education as most college students attend college while working, and are looking for local education opportunities and job training. Bumphus emphasizes community college leaders are enthusiastic in helping to achieve President Obama’s 2020 goals for higher education and discusses the 21st Century Commission for the Future of Community Colleges and their report, Reclaiming the American Dream, which serves as a blueprint for how community colleges can meet these ambitious goals. Furthermore, Bumphus strongly advocates the need for community college leaders to seek partnerships with business leaders to meet the changing demands of the workforce, K-12 partners to prepare students for college, and four-year institutions in order to streamline the transfer-of-credit process.
