Abstract

The project presented is the building of a timber frame barn at Jonathon’s home in Nottingham. The necessity of the project arose from the need for storage and a place to shelter horses; the idea of doing it as a timber frame came from passion. A lover of New England, Jon often found himself staring at old barns and bridges, amazed at the craftsmanship that stood the test of time. Jon and his wife, Hannah, are also dedicated to rescuing animals and decided they would take in horses that could make the barn home. The barn is currently underway with an estimated completion of October, 2018. The need for planning, communication and organization became apparent when unanticipated risks appeared. The use of management plans prevented the project from coming to a standstill. The barn presents a future opportunity for Jon to repair and build timber frame barns as a business.
