Tawny Saez, University of New Hampshire

In this thesis, I argue that anthropological findings can foster a culturally respective nature of development for rural cultures toying with the idea of tourism. Ethnographic research was conducted the rural community of Anã in the Brazilian Amazon with a recently introduced tourism project in the hopes of defining any socio-cultural transformations. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the socio-cultural transformations of rural tourism due to the fact that many traditional societies are beginning to use tourism as a development tool.
