1930s. Oxford shoe. Tan suede with a vamp (toe) coming to an oval point in front and extending in back to the middle of the arch of the foot. The quarters (backs) are sewn together at center back and the top edge is cut into an acute angle above the vanishing point of the vamp, rising in a deep curve over the instep to form the closed-tab front-lacing construction of the shoe. Seven pairs of eyelets are stitched into this, threaded with a brown lace tipped with narrow metal aiglets. The tongue is cut with a scalloped top edge and meets the level of the top of the lacing tabs. The sole is leather with a knock-on stacked leather heel. The vamp is lined in cotton and the quarters are lined in leather. Marked as size 5-B on the lining and stamped on the insole in gold with the maker's label. Professionally made. Machine-sewn.
