Description
A music manuscript with the notation for the songs "The General", "General's Salute" and "Trip to Reneleagh" [usually spelled "Ranelagh"] on the front. The reverse side has the notation and lyrics for a song labeled as both "The Soldier's Song" and "Lilies of France" as well as an additonal melody for "The General's Salute". Sources are listed on the manuscript. Part of the collection of songs and dances from the 17th and 18th centuries gathered by Bessie Osgood; ^"The General" and "General's Salute" are both in G major and 4/4 time; "Trip to Raneleagh" is in D major and 2/4 time; "The Soldier's Song"/"Lillies of France" is in D major and 4/4 time; The alternative melody to "The General's Salute" is either in G mixolydian or is missing the key signature, and is in 4/4 time.
