Description

A music manuscript folio with the notation and lyrics for the songs "Youth's the Season made for Joys"—from John Gay's The Beggar's Opera—and "How can I be Sad on my Wedding Day", from Allan Ramsay's The Gentle Shepherd on the front. The inner pages contain notation for the songs; "The Highland Laddie", "A Minuet"—from John Gay's opera Achilles—"Bath Minuet"—from the opera Penelope—and "Capillaire Minuet". The back page contains notation for the song "Lady Wallace of Craigie's Minuet". Sources are listed on the manuscript. Part of the collection of songs and dances from the 17th and 18th centuries gathered by Bessie Osgood; ^"Youth's the Season made for Joys" is in C major and 4/4 time; "How can I be Sad on my Wedding Day" is in D major and 6/8 time; "The Highland Laddie" is in F major and 2/4 time; "A Minuet" is in C major and 3/4 time; "Bath Minuet" is in C major and 3/4 time; "Capillaire Minuet" is in E-flat major and 3/4 time; "Lady Wallace of Craigie's Minuet" is in E-flat major and 3/4 time.
