Abstract

"The role of Capitol Hill’s Advisory Committee on institutional auality and integrity: A historical perspective" is a podcast interview with Dr. Robert Andringa, former Chair of the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI). Dr. Andringa provides an insightful historical perspective and describes how NACIQI began initially as an effort to promote access to affordable higher education and evolved into the organization it has become today. Emphasizing NACIQI’s important role as a trust broker between the Department of Education and Congress, Dr. Andringa also asserts the accreditation process is costly to institutions in both time and resources. He supports the recommendation of NACIQI for the diversification of accrediting organizations. Dr. Andringa believes that the accreditation process could be doing more to encourage innovation within institutions. Lastly, Dr. Andringa advocates for the utilization of regulatory disincentives for institutions showing poor performance in student completion rates.

Interview facilitation, commentary and discussion presented by Kathryn Dodge, Alison Griffin, and Elise Scanlon of Radio Higher Ed.
